Which Newspaper?
« on: Thursday 18 October 07 18:50 BST (UK) »

Hi

I have just received a death certificate for my relative and have found out that she died during the 2nd world war.

Thanks to some help from a fellow rootschatter, I have found her details on the Commonwealth War site.  I now know she died at Hillingdon County Hospital  following an incident at Hayes Station on the 29th October 1940.

What I would like to know is whether this would have been reported in a local Newspaper.  If so, could someone give me a name of a paper and also where I am likely to find the records for that paper?

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi KPM,

You could try the British Newspaper Library at Colindale, London ; their website might help track the local paper:

http://www.bl.uk/collections/newspaper

I lived in the area as a child in 1950/60s; from memory I think one paper was the Uxbridge Gazette.  A quick "google" should help.

ps. Possibly Hillingdon or Hayes Family History Societies might be able to help.
