Hi,
I live in Inverbervie commonly called Bervie although Bervie is actually the Parish which contains the village of Gourdon 1mile distant.  If you have not logged on to it already, there is a website which contains a vast amount about the Mowatt family of Gourdon.
It is:  the mowatts.blogspot.com/2007/09/mowatt-family-tree.html

Hi ev.
Sorry to hear that you couldn't find the website.  Try Googling Mowatt Family of Gourdon.

I am a descendent of  James Mowatt who moved to Gourdon in 1760 and built his home  establishing Mowats Lane. I have info on the generations preceeding him from Kinneff but few references to confirm them. I have a website http://mowatts.sampasite.com
and would be most obliged if anyone could given more concrete information regarding his ancestors.

Many thanks

Hi DGM,

Just been having a look at your website, and I see that you have an Alexander Gove in your tree.

My mother was Martha Begg Gove, born in 1911, her Father was Munro Gove, born 1-8-1872 in Kinneff.  His Father was Andrew Gove from Gourdon, born 24-10-1841. His father in turn was another Anderew Gove, born about 1810, and as far as I have been able to find out, his father was James Gove.

There are so many Gove's in Gourdon and Johnshaven it's been difficult to sort them out - even the one's I'm directly related to.

We could possibly be related somewhere along the line!

Hi Rowana
All I have is John Gove b.1818 son of Andrew Grove and Christian Lownie. It is possible that he could have been a brother to Andrew born 1810.

Much love

AS far as I know so far, the Andrew born about 1810 was the son of James Gove & Isabel Watson.

It's possible that your Andrew was the brother of James.  If I find out anything definite, I'll let you know.

Cheers

Hi Everyone
Having successfully sorted out the Mowatt family I decided to follow up on the female side. But I have hit a huge block. My Great grandfather Charles Mowatt married  Helen Butler Rae in Charlestown South Africa on 11 July 1890.  I have tried to source her family but with no success. Passenger records state that they returned to Scotland in 1900 and back to South Africa in 1901. My cousin has books sent to her grandfather [son of Charles in 1908 and 1922]. In them is hand written " Happy Birthday"  and an address 99 Leslie Terrace, Aberdeen. We assume that these would have came from the Rae family as the Mowatts lived in Gourdon. If anyone can help in tracking this line I would be most grateful.

Much Love

I entered the name Helen Butler Rae in the ScotlandsPeople index of births
and one came up born 1868 St. Nicholas, Aberdeen.  If she's the correct one this would make her 22 at the time of her marriage. Might be worth having a look at the certificate.
I forgot to check the IGI.  She was born 6 Mar1868 and her parents were John Rae and Helen Butler.  Siblings were Christina Mitchell Rae ( 12 Jun 1866) and Agnes Rae (28 Jan 1870).  There are probably more but the IGI only extends to about 1870.  I could not find a marriage for the parents.

Thank you both so much. This is correct as I have a birth date of 6 March 1868 for my great grandmother. This now means I can at last start tracking that line as well. Really grateful for this info.
