A McPoland by name but a Downing by heart!

I am trying to find more info about Benns parents Isaac Dawson (b. 1843 in Wasdale) and Mary ? (b. 1832 but not sure where?). They married in Kendal in 1865, and that is all i can find out. I can't get a trace on Isaac in The census returns at all. The only ones that come up are in other areas of the Country and i know for a fact that he never left the local area.
I am now at a stage where i am completely stuck on this line of the family, so any help would be MUCH appreciated.

They are in 1881 census at
RG11 5207 53 19

Hi erica

The reason your not finding Isaac is because he is listed as DOWSON b 1843 in Nether Wasdale.  I think you will find his full name is Isaac Bibby Dawson his birth being registered in June 1843 at Whitehaven 25 242.  He is with his mother on 1851 and she is Elizabeth aged Elizabeth aged 52 b Birker, Cumberland.

Found his baptism, Isaac was the Illigitimate son of Elizabeth Dawson baptised 5/6/1842 at Nether Wasdale.  That is what the baptism is saying but personally I am not convinced that he was illigitimate.  During this period a number of children were born to William and Elizabeth Dawson,  it could be that by the timeIsaac was born William had died.
