1891/1901 Censuses -Walter Horrod - COMPLTD - V.MANY THANKS TO TRICIA,JANE &TONY

I have just bought a copy marriage certificate of one of my Bardy family. Sarah Ann Bardy married Walter Horrod in 1906 in York. Walter is down as age 25 Bachelor - Private 18th Hussars, living Cavalry Barracks, York - Father William Horrod (Deceased) Labourer.

Could someone please see if they can see him on 1891 and/or 1901 census. Unfortunately, I do not know where he was born or any of his siblings but with his unusual surname hopefully he can be found!

I have found the family above in the 1881 but fathers name is Charles so maybe not the right family

St Mary Lambeth RG 11/584
Charles Horrod 34 Holborn Middlesex
Elizabeth Horrod 35 Sherborne Dorset
William C Horrod 10 Newington(Lambeth) Surrey
Alfred Horrod 6 Newington(Lambeth) Surrey
Walter Horrod 0 Lambeth Surrey
In 1883 Charles Israel Horrod died.
In 1884 Elizabeth Horrod married a Samuel Jeffrey Town at Lambeth
it looks like the 1891 census was mistranscribed as the name does look like Town.
In the 1891 it does say stepsons

Hi

I think the name is Town as I noticed on the 1901 they are both Town Elizabeth still living in Islington and Samuel is in Pentonville Jail

This is only a possibilty for the family that Zephyr is looking for we need some confirmation as to where Walter was born before we go any further.

Hello Sisterjane and Tonyfebruary

Thank you for checking censuses for me. Unfortunately, I do not know where Walter was born (though I have now found a birth on freebmd for March qtr 1881 in Lambeth). Another possible way of finding out where Walter is born is: Do either of you by any chance have access to ancestry's British Army WWI pension records. There is one Walter Horrod listed there born in the County of Surrey. These documents are usually 8 or 9 pages long and give, among other things, a description of the person, where born and nearest kin which, hopefully, in this case would be Sarah Ann Horrod (nee Bardy) plus names and births of children. Is there any chance you could check this document out for me so see if it is 'my' Walter Horrod?

On marriage certificate Walter's father's name is definitely given as William so not sure where Charles comes in.

Yes, it is your Walter and there are about 18 pages including description. I will contact you by pm if that is ok. He was 19 when he joined up and Alfred and William are named as brothers. Children:May Ethel and Alfred.

He was born 1881 Blackfriars Surrey

This seems to fit the census postings so not sure what happened to the father's name.

And noted on the marriage cert snippet that one of the witnesses was Elizabeth Walls.......I wonder if they are the same person....
