looking for Newspaper article
« on: Sunday 21 October 07 20:41 BST (UK) »

Hi everyone,
I am hoping that someone could do a look up for me in a Devonshire Newspaper.
My Husbands Grandfather John Henry Clarke was born Aug 1891 in Marldon near Paignton. His mother Mary Clarke was suppose to have been engaged at the time of conception to someone from a noted family.
This chap the father of John Henry was killed following the fall from a horse, before he could marry Mary.
So this is what I would like looking up to see if there are any details of someone dying following the fall from a horse.
The time span for this event would be Nov 1890 - Aug 1891
Many Thanks
Syl

Have you tried the Devon Family History website which has the Tree house in Exeter where they may hold newspapers?

what about Parish records, I dont know if that area has an on line Parish Clerk, look in Genuki?

Whilst there is a great variety of books and other family history related material at Tree House, I'm sorry to say that there are no newspapers.
The Westcountry Studies Library has the Exeter Flying Post on microfilm.
Have a look at
http://www.devon.gov.uk/localstudies/100204/1.html
for further information on newspapers in Devon and where they can be seen- normally on microfilm

Hello,

Try ringing the Newton Abbot library local studies unit  they have a collection of local newspaper on film for that period, or the Totnes museum archive section. I have used both, but Newton Abbot is probably your best bet.
