Good to hear from you 
I was helping an acquaintance with the McDonald line ( I have Macdonalds but not this family) we concluded his father may also have been Allan McDonald as they travelled on the same ship and put their previous abode as the same. Unfortunately nothing concrete to help get definite family back in Scotland.
Shipping records are so hard to come by! There is a James William McDonald arriving in 31 Dec 1840 on the familyhistorysa.info site.
My Murch line came from High Bickington & Chagford & Drewsteigton areas pre 1820s and I haven't a Basten connection that I am aware of yet.
I do have DFHS Indexes for Murch if you would like a look up.

Im helping a Friend here with her Mcdonald Family, but allan Mcdonald, Interesting, as James had a Son called allan and Allan Mcdonald who married Margaret Morrisson he died in Port Gawler Area in South australia not far from Port Pirie where some of Her Mcdonalds Were
Most came from Victor Harbour/encounter bay area but we cant find him coming here
now in regards to the Murch

Just a quick reply for now.
Wouldn't you know it after 2 years we get in contact in the busiest time of the year for me. SHEARING!! LOL
Firstly,re the death of Allan MCDonald re Pt Gawler - could you give me the details because as I remember, the family was unsure of them and were searching for a grave.
Secondly, the Murch Family, no immediate connection is obvious but one of our family remained in England beyond 1855, a John Murch born 1815 Drewsteigton. He married an Elizabeth HARRIS.
The MURCH baptism index shows John MURCH the son of Robert (Labourer) & Elizabeth born 19 Nov 1837 at Harberton. ???A problem with age here.
There is a John Murch born 1826 in Hoe & baptised in Parish of Chittlehampton and one in 1829 In Silverton. If you think one of these may fit let me know and I will send on parents etc.
I havent been able to pinpoint Arbertonford to see if is close to one of these.
A Richard MURCH is born in 1820 Harbarton to a Robert & Margaret There are a couple of other Harbarton MURCH families named.
On a more positive note the Births of John & Susan MURCH Children are shown. They were of the parish HORRABRIDGE WESLEYAN
Jane Basten MURCH born 17 Sept and baptised 12 Oct 1851, parish HORRABRIDGE WESLEYAN
James Basten MURCH born SAMPFORD SPINEY 18 Jan 1853 and baptised 31 July 1853, parish HORRABRIDGE WESLEYAN
Susan Bastin MURCH born HORRABRIDGE SAMPFORD SPINEY
BORN 3 JUL 1855 and baptised 18 Sept 1861 in parish HORRABRIDGE WESLEYAN
Mary Edith Basten HORRABRIDGE SAMPFORD SPINNEY BORN 7 JAN 1860 and baptised 18 Sept 1861 in parish HORRABRIDGE WESLEYAN
The indexes cover baptisms from 1813-1839 so I was surprised to see the chn of John & Susan included. Perhaps because it was the Wesleyan Parish. The other unusual thing about this, is Johns occupation is not recorded. All other entries record the fathers occupation.
You probably have this information already but thought I would pass it on anyway.
