Hello Sheila
Your 2nd find is probably the right Matilda BUT the child of Matilda Lovett and Alfred Taylor was named Garnett Whitfield Taylor. I have found a Matilda Whitfield step daughter to a Henry and Susan Lovett on the 1861 census in Norwich, therefore I need to know who the named father to Matilda is on her marriage to Alfred Taylor 1879. The marriage possibly took place in Attleborough in the dist. of Wayland, Norfolk.

You are going to have to buy the marriage certificate to find the name of her father.

Thank you slaw, I have found Matilda Whitfield on the 1841 census, aged 1, in Norwich, father William and mother Susan. It really puts her at the wrong age to be the mother of Garnett Whitfield Taylor. More recent census, as Matilda Taylor, puts her birth about 1844 but it is the 'Whitfield' connection that keeps drawing me back to her.
I was, I suppose, hoping that someone going to the Norwich records office could have a look for me.

Hi everyone, My reading of the Susan Lovett, Henry Lovett thing is that Susans first marriage was to William Whitworth not Whitfield. She is my tail female ancestor that I've been struggling with. Therefore Matilda her daughter is not likely to be the one you're looking for.
If anybody does happen to know about Matilda Whitworth who was living with Henry and Susan Lovett that might give me more ammunition thanks
