Edward CASSEY printer
« on: Friday 26 October 07 12:47 BST (UK) »

I have a Robert Patrick Bennett CASSEY born in Hereford in 1858. Parents
Edward CASSEY and Frances or Mary HIGGINS.

Edward is listed as a "Printer". I have heard of the company Edward CASSEY
and CO which printed histories and gazetteers of Hereford and Shropshire in
the mid 1800s. Has anyone any idea as to how I might find out if my Edward
is the book printer?

Does anyone know anything else of this family?

Hi Marie,

It looks like you may be right, this looks like Robert in the 1861 and 1871 census, look at Edward's occupation in 1871 Smiley

1861  RG9/1988  f.25  p.7  Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
34 Pearson St

Edward CASSEY   Head  Mar  42  Land Surveyor      Ireland
Catherine  "  "     Wife  Mar   28                           Ireland  ?Kerry?
Robert      "  "      Son            3                           Hereford
Frances     "  "    Daur           10m                        Worcestershire Stourbridge

1871  RG10/2806  f.79  p.17  Wellington, Shropshire
Newtown

Edward CASSEY  Lodger  Wid  49  Pub. of County Directorys    Ireland
Robert     "  "       "  "            13                              Herefordshire Hereford

With other lodgers in the household of Hannah Griffiths.

If you don't mind me asking where do you find his wife to be Frances or Mary HIGGINS, I ask because I found this marriage,

EDWARD CASSEY  Sep Q  1856  Manchester    v.8d  p.160
Catharine HIGGINS with same details.

Regards
Daisy

THanks for going to the trouble of looking this up for me.
Yes, it seems to confirm that Edward is THE Edward CASSEY, doesn't it!

Frances Higgins appears as mother's name on the son Robert's death cert and someone on the internet had her listed as Mary so I was covering all bases. I think Catherine is correct though as there is a death for Catherine Cassey in 1863 in Hertfordshire. This ties in with Edward being there preparing to publish his Hertfordshire County Directory which he did in 1863. Also, he was a widower by 1871.
Perhaps her name was Catherine Frances or perhaps his wife was confused   with the name of his sister.

Once again, thankyou for your interest.
