I think it is a brilliant idea. It wouldn't be so bad if 1837 could index pages properly, rather than the rather random way you have to guess where your 3 letter search may be. I like Trudys site where she is able to post info for 1901 for free after people have transcribed it, although it is one ELL of a lot of work. Someone posted the backdoor entry into FreeBMD (?) once, and I downloaded hundreds of pages before emailing them about it. sadly, or NOT, I deleted them after discovering I should n't be doing this, well I guess I knew, but there were no thanks for informing them of their loophole. I do not see anything wrong with some free stuff available to ALL. I would post lots more info on my site, but a lot of it has been purloined along the way, and therefore I do not, but if there is a legal way of adding this info for free, OR even better, a small donation to a GOOD charity, then why not. This site, I am sure has the capabilities of this, easily. Kevan ps This is an excellent site to visit, at least twice a day.

Kevin,i agree with you.We shouldnt have to pay for whats ours to start with.I do appreciate the fact that someone somewhere has to put in the work to make things available in the first place, but most of the sites now are run by very good volunteers and it gets quite expensive after a while trying to get the right information.I wouldnt mind paying a fee to a registerd charity as you suggest.I just think that everyone is out to rip someone off,as if things arent expensive enough. ;)Things like the 1901 census information, why cant we pay a fee for the upkeep of the building the records are kept in or something similar.I cant praise rootschat enough,i have had lots of help from some very nice people and they didnt charge a penny, thats what i call charity.Keep up the good work ROOTSCHAT.Anne.

hi Kevan, i too found the backdoor to freeBMD,but at the time it didnt have so much info on it.altho i have still got the nice covers...
My own files, i often go back and have a look through them and they have become very useful. at one stage, i was searching blind for a marriage, and have ended up ith pages from 1901 - 1914 for the ELEY family.that was daft, i know, but i still would share my info if i found some-one searching same names as in my collection. I have sorted all my saved searches into folders...surname...birth...marriage...death.
i had email today to say that 1837 has some new updates "On Tuesday 30th March 2004 we will be launching a new version of our site (at http://www.1837online.com). Regular visitors will notice that we have changed the look and feel of the site. In addition, as part of this upgrade, we?re delighted to bring you new material including guides to starting researching your family tree, frequently asked questions and news & events. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Your Family Tree magazine (http://www.yourfamilytreemag.co.uk/) for providing us with some of the new content -- we are also working with them on some exciting offers for the future, so please do keep an eye out for that. We have added the 2002 records for birth, marriages and deaths in the 1984 to date database. We also have a number of new record sets that will be uploaded on to the site in the future."
