Ainslie St Cemetery, Grimsby
« on: Saturday 27 October 07 11:45 BST (UK) »

Does anyone have access to burials or memorial inscriptions for the Ainslie St Cemetery in Grimsby, please?

My OH's ggg-grandfather moved up from Barking, Essex, to Grimsby around 1860 and lived there until his death in 1880. I don't know where he is buried, but I believe an infant son of his is buried at Ainslie St so there's a reasonable chance that he is there too.

John Forge, died 8 June 1880, aged 72
his wife Ann died in 1917, aged 98
their infant son, Walter, buried 19 April 1861, aged 3-ish
... and any other Forges are probably related!

Many thanks

Gasp!  Cheesy  Geoff, thank you so much for all that. I can recognise nearly all those names.

I'll have a search to see if the Cleethorpes Cemetery will supply plot numbers and/or a plan of the grounds - I'm sure I saw that someone was offering to take photos in the area.  Cool

This is exciting ...  Grin

Very gratefully

Hi again, Geoff

Could I trouble you for another burial lookup, please?

Cornelius Genney, born 1838, Grimsby
his wife Jane, born 1843, Grimsby

I have trawled through the deaths images from 1901 to 1940 when Cornelius would have been over 100 years old, but cannot see either of them - they must be mistranscribed on the original indexes probably as Ginney or Graney or Gurney or anything inbetween!

Many thanks

No ... sorry, they're not there.

All of the GENNEYs seem to have been buried at St Mary & St James, and the records for this place end at 1900 Sad

Drat! Cornelius was born and bred in Grimsby, later becoming a town councillor, so he is surely buried there somewhere. I'll just have to resign myself to ploughing through the images for all the name variations!

Thank you for looking for him.  Smiley
