Hi
I am returning to this branch after a while as I'm awaiting certificates for my other target.
Would someone be able to look up a parish register for the Brixham area? I am trying to find the father of Susan Ann Webb who was (according to IGI) baptized on 2nd Dec 1832. Her mother was listed as Ann Webb but no father. Although there is a possibility Susan was illegitimate I think the husband may have in fact died. On Susan's marriage cert the father is named as Ann Webb (widow). Obviously this may have been to prevent an illegitimacy showing up or that her father died before she was born.
I couldn't see an offer for parish look ups but you can but try.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian - Susan Ann the daughter of Ann Webb was baptised on the 2nd Dec 1832 in the parish of Brixham St. Mary's, she was listed as a base born (illegitimate).

Thanks Steve
Secretly I thought she probably was illegitimate, although she's the first on that side of the family!
You wouldn't happen to know if there are any bastardy returns for that time?
Regards and Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian - the bastardy returns would be kept in the main Devon Records Office. The next time I am in there I'll check for you.
regards Steve

Hello Ian, I called the Devon Records Office today and they hold some Bastardy Returns upto 1775 for Brixham. They do have several accouts books which might have recorded charges in trying to find father, but this might be a long shot.
