Jackie Saunders, Bedford c1920, Mystery Boy.
|
I have two photographs of a little boy. One was in my grandmother's locket. I think it of a Jackie Saunders but I have no idea who he was. The other is taken with my mother and aunt, I would think about 1920, my mother was born in 1905, my aunt 10yrs earlier. I would very interested to know if they are of the same child. Could I post them to ask for opinions, if so where? Thank you. RBC.

Hi RBC,
the best place for photo dating, comparisons, etc. is the Photo Restoration board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,298.0.html
try your luck there,
Bob
Update: Meles is also right, but some mod or other will probably move it to the restoration board before long

This isn't a reply. It should be two more photographs. My mother on the right was born in 1905 RBC.

Hi RBC!
Unless his mum has had the hair straighteners out, I don't think it is the same lad!

Hi
I've put them together in a row. The first and second are definitely the same and I think the third could possibly be.
From my own family observations, hair does straighten as children grow older and it is possible to wear one's hair to make it as straight as possible.

Point taken Gadget
When side by side they do look very similar. You are probably correct in thinking that they are the same lad. The mouth, nose and eyes are all very similar.
He was certainly a handsome little chap! Hope he had a good life! Judy

Thank you very much for putting them side by side. The tilt of the head (is that the right expression) does makes them look like the same child. Please could you tell me when you think they were taken? My mother is on the right in Photo 1 she was born in 1905. By the look of Photo 3 could that have been taken a few years later. I only have the small locket sized photo. My grandmother had nine children and grandchildren, so Jackie must have been special to her. My mother remembers Jackie as a nice little boy. The surname Saunders does not feature in our family. I shouldn't make assumptions, but I think perhaps Jackie could have been the child of one of my mother's brothers. I would like to be able to estimate Photo 3 boys date of birth and look for his birth certificate. Thank you for your interest. RBC

Hi RBC
At a guess, I'd say your mother looks about 15-18 which would give a date for the group photo of 1920-23.
