Hi all
I'm looking for info on a company of wine and spirit merchants run by James Hodgson, Thomas Gibson (who are both ancestors of mine) and some bloke called Brown during the second half of the 19th C. in Hull.
Does anyone know anything about these guys?
Thanks

Hi Maybe not a lot of help but the 1897 Kelly's diractory for Hull has the company listed under the heading of 'wine & spirit merchants', they were also 'importers' at 21 High Street, Hull.
The 1861 Post Office directory has 2 listings under 'wine & spirit merchants' Hodgson, Son & Gibson, 21 Hight Street Hodgson, Son & Gibson, 76 Lowgate
and maybe a related entry Hodgson, George Ker, 19 Bowlalley Lane

Hi Bee
Thankyou for replying. I was already up on the directory info - what I'm looking for more specifically are company records. I'm interested in the role played by James Hodgson and Thomas Gibson in the running of the company. Also their relationship to one another; James' daughter Ann Elizabeth married John Thomas Gibson. J T Gibson was a corn merchant - related to brewing? Thomas Gibson's brother Robert (born 1822 Stillington) was a brewer and spirits merchant in Foston. What was their business connection? Also, their father Robert Gibson (born 1788 Knaresborough) was a Customs and Excise officer - where does he fit in?
I'm also interested in any ads or pictures of Hodgson and Gibson business, and any details of employees.
Cheers
