I am tracing my father's side of the family and his late adopted brother was adopted aged 4. From the adoption record we have managed to discover his biological surname and ordered a birth certificate. Born in November 1934, his mother is listed as Edith Miriam Edwards of Great Ellingham. No father is listed. Place of birth is Cades Hill House, Attleborough and the informant is a G Oates described as Occupier of Cades Hill House. Does anyone know of an Edith Miriam Edwards born/living in Gt Ellingham?
After much detective work I received information from a local lady that Cades Hill House was a home for unmarried women/girls to give birth linked to Wayland Infirmary. I assume I am not the only person who has an ancestor who was born here.... has anyone got any further information on Cades Hill House/Wayland Infirmary in 1930s? I cannot find a Kellys Directory later than 1829.
I am also hoping to find out what happened to him between being born in 1934 and being adopted by my grandparents in 1938.
