hi gadget,

took the broons back to the 1841 census and never saw that anyone was born ireland

have no luck with thomas cherrie at the moment, maybe he is the connection.

Yes - sorry, Joe. i see it at the bottom of the Brown census info. The Cherrie one is the next line of attack, as you say.

Thomas Cherrie was a shale miner ,aged what looks like 20 in 1892. His parents were John Cherrie (shale miner) and Ann Kerr.

Alexander Donaldson is now down as journeyman baker, deceased.

john...age 27...coal miner
ann...age 23
john...age 3
william...age 10 months

1881 census- auchenbegg, lesmahagow

john...age 40...coal miner
ann...age 30
john...age 13...coal miner
thomas...age 8
william...age 6
james...age 3
marion...age 1


i reckon that john cherrie dies before the 1891 census as ann reverts back to her maiden name and looks to be living in some kind of lodgings.

1891- 6 elem grove, lasswade

ann kerr...age 41
thomas...age 18...shale miner
william...age 16...shale miner
marion...age 11
alexander...age 7
margaret...age 2

1901 census- 16 church street, lasswade

john...age 34...coal miner
beatrice...age 34...born england
lovinia...age 12
ann...age 9
joseph...age 7
james...age 5
william...age 3
margaret...age 1


iain pal, i think you have enough info to be going on with now, i sure hope that someone will connect to your family, as you now have the Brown's, the Allan's and the Cherrie's

Hi Guys, ( joekar & gadget ),

Went out shopping after i posted this morning, wow! you've been busy. The info you've collected is brilliant. Got a lot to go on now, gadget came up with Ann Kerr, my mothers name was Anne Keir Cherrie Erskine, so thats where that connection comes from.
The O'malleys were  Robert Browns mothers side if i remember right. Also there's a French connection somewhere in there, don't ask me where, this lot seems to be a bit of a heinz verity.
If either of you live in the Loanhead area, i'm due you a drink.
