A very useful source of Dorset data (census, parish registers, directories etc) is www.dorset-opc.com.    You might find something about George Loder there.

Thanks Nanny Jan, got some information but don't know if it is relevant as George's father was Giles Loder and we don't know his mother. Does anyone know how to access names of Englishmen who went to India with the army?  Sandra
