Bulmer family Kirkby Fleetham
« on: Sunday 21 October 07 16:14 BST (UK) »

I am looking for information on the Bulmer family in Kirkby Fleetham, especially William (1778). I want to find out if he married Jane Hudson in Sowerby in Thirsk in 1804. Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.

Are you asking because you found him on the IGI? as there is a William Bulmer marrying a Jane Hudson on 4th Dec 1804 in Sowerby on there.

Depending on the accuracy of the submitter he is also in the Pedigree Resource file
Birth:   1780
  Danby Wiske, North Yorkshire

  Death:   1808
  Thirsk, North Yorkshire

  Sowerby in Thirsk
Burial:   4 Jul 1808

  Jane HUDSON
Marriage:  4 Dec 1804
  Sowerby in Thirsk

So judging by that it's not your William Sad  the person who submitted it has their name and address on the page if you want to contact them to verify their sources.

The William Bulmer I am searching for is the one who married Jane Hudson in 1804, but I don't know where he was born. I thought you had found me the information I was looking for, but William Bulmer born in Danby Wiske didn't die until 1851. The submitter lifted an early tree I put on Ancestry.co.uk and then put it on Genes Reunited as his own work, funny thing is it had the same spelling mistakes and wrong dates/places as my tree.

I do wonder though about the burial date as that could be right and something I didn't know. I do know Jane Hudson(Bulmer) remarried in 1810 to a William Cartman.

I have managed to eliminate most of the William Bulmers born around 1780, but the one from Kirkby Fleetham seems a strong possibility. Williams father John married Mary Bennison in 1770 and Williams son Thomas married Ann Bennison born in Kirkby Fleetham. Hope it makes sense.

There may be more info in the parish registers if a parent was witness to the marriage which might be able to sort which William he is, they'll be at Northallerton records office.

His MI might give a clue too if the stone is still standing.

Edit- Sowerby St Oswalds has been transcribed and Teesside Archives has a copy,  and this link has someone who will look for you if you ask nicely  Wink

Many thanks for your help.

I have looked at the gravestones at St Oswalds for many of my Bulmer ancestors whose deaths are recorded at St Oswalds, but not found their gravestones and I have no idea where they are.

The memorial inscriptions may have been done before a lot of the stones deteriorated so they might be there but the stone is gone, it's always worth an ask.

I have deaths recorded from 1808 to 1950 in Sowerby and only found two definate connections and one possible on the gravestones. One I am looking for was the owner of a shoe factory in Sowerby who died in 1921 however there is no gravestone at St Oswalds or in Thirsk cemetery. I wonder if there is a family plot somewhere.
