Yet another

Catherine Wheel Alley, St Boltoph
Mary Crawley, 25 milliner born Ireland with
Catherine 20 trimming maker born London.
You'd better start making a data base methinks.

You are right, Cougar, I feel a new DB coming on!!

I thought I'd be lucky to find ONE, let alone all this lot.

Now all I need to do is to work out how they are all related!

Sorry to butt in on this conversation, but I got excited seeing St Georges in the East !! (It doesn't take much!)

Can this extremely kind person tell me how I could find out who lived with my ancester at 146 Royal Mint Street.
She is Johanne Louise Gesine Meinecke and I have her living at the above address in 1874. Her parents were living in Yorkshire at the time, so I am desperate to find out who she was living with - hoping for other relatives - but I have had no luck whatsoever.

Thanks

Hi Gill
There is no Royal Mint St in St George in the East in 1841 I'm sorry to say.
There is one that covers a full ED in Whitechapel so guess I had better be a kind person and look there.
Will get back to you

Hi Gill
Sorry to say cannot see her in what became Royal Mint St.   Back in 1841 it was Rosemary St and came up under Whitechappel and Bethnal green.   There are no street numbers for those days.
Went through all of Rosemary and surrounds but did not find her.    There were a few very faded pages, but didn't look like any names were yours.
I think that if you had her there in 1874 would have been unlikely that she was there in 1841 as people tended to move a lot back then.
I am not seeing her on either the 1851 or 1861 indexes, but the ones I have are only partial.
Sorry Cougar

Thanks so very much for all your time.
I'll have to see if I can track down the 1871 and keep my fingers crossed.
It was only a wild hope, but I'm very grateful for you taking the time.

Thanks

This is all I could find under that name in 1871 No 8 Pennellfourt / Pennell Court, Hingston on Hull
She is listed as housekeeper to a William Gissler -
28 year old sailor born Bremer Germany and his brother Louis 10 also born Bremer
Johanna Meinecke, grandmother, widow, 82,
born Benkenstein? Germany.
Also
12 Union Court, Hingston on Hull
Louis Meinecke, 41, no occ. born Germany - notation - lost one arm.
Beta Meinecke, wife, 39, dressmaker, born Germany.
I have saved the images so if you send me a PM with your email can send them through if you would like the copies.

Thanks again for all your time and effort.

I have the information regarding Louis and Beta living in Hull(my missing Johanne's mum and dad), although I didn't have an actual address. And I also had discovered about the Johanna Meinecke in Hull with her grandsons ( could be my Johanna's grandmother. I've been unable to prove that yet)

But it's the Johanna Meinecke born 1855 in Bremen, that I'm trying to track down. Her parents were in Hull for the 1871 census but not before. She married in London in 1874.
So it may be that she did not come over from Germany until after the 1871 census. I just wondered if she was living with relatives at the time of the census (as she wasn't with her parents)  that I might have another lead to follow.

Well, never mind. Thanks again for all your help.
I'll have another 'attack' on the German sites when I've a bit more time.
