Clarke and Bylan
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 14:37 UTC (UK) »

Clarke, Francis & Mary Bylan. County Louth.
I am having great difficulty in finding information with regards to my grandparents, my dad passed away in 1991, and although he was always proud of being Irish, he told us very little about his family, the only thing I have to go-on is a copy of his birth certificate,
On the cert it states the Birth was Registered in the District of Castlebellingham, in the Superintendent Registrars District of Ardee, in the County of Louth, my dads name was Christopher, the Date and Place of Birth Thirtieth December 1919, Drumacurra. with the Name and Dwelling Place of Father, stated as Francis Clarke, Drumacurra.
Sorry for being long winded, but the bottom line is where or what is
Drumacurra(the spelling is from the cert). I have found Castlebellingham,Ardee, but what or where is Drumacurra.

Sounds like it should be the name of the townland where you father was born. You can search at www.seanruad.com (be sure to change default search setting from exact match).

I'm wondering if its meant to read 'Drumcar' which is a Civil Parish and Townland in the county of Louth...... that would make sense....

The modern Irish (Gaelic) name for Drumcar is "Droim Chora". An older version is "Drom Cara". The pronunciation is more or less the same, so it is possible that your grandparents used the Irish version of the townland name on the birth certificate.

There is a townland called Drumnacarra in the parish of Ballymascanlan, just north of Dundalk.
