John and Elizabeth Hardy - 1851 Census
« on: Wednesday 07 November 07 15:37 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone find this family on the 1851 census?

John Hardy (born about 1811 Leics) and wife Elizabeth. Children John, William, Mary and Henrietta.

I have found them on the 1841 census living at Stathern Lodge -

but I haven't been able to find them on the 1851.

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Thank you, this does indeed look to be them. Can you make out where John was born on the actual census? It's been transcribed as Scoston, but I can't find that on streetmap, any ideas?

Also, what do you think that says next to Williams name, is it 'married'? He's only 17 but I suppose it could be possible.

Thank you for finding them for me.

Hi Linda,
William is definately "unmarried" -written in  full

Have you noticed next door are "Simmons"-born Leicester??

Could they possibly be "Simons"Huh

There is a Hardy/Simons connection way back.

I agree with Debbie-Owston (think it is written as Hoston on 1851)

Also on 1851 census henrietta's age has been altered and looks like it should be 13 not 10

Children's p.o.b. are transcribed as St Albans -when (to me) it looks like Stathern

Hi Suz, I thought Stathern too, especially as they were living at Stathern Lodge on the 1841 census.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Sus, Yes I have managed to trace him through the different census' with the information I've been given.

It seems strange he was a schoolmaster after being listed as a farmer on the 1841 census. Must have had a change of career! Perhaps he was an educated farmer.
