Hi Nick

Just googled 'spaldington hall' and it must be still there as there was a music in the park event there last year.

Hi Nick

In Kelly's Directory of N & E Ridings of Yorkshire, 1913 it gives a Thos. Appleyard at Lowther Farm, Laytham. (page 444)

Hi Nick

A page on the web about Spaldington Hall  http://www.driffieldtoday.co.uk/legends-of-yorkshire/Robin-Roundcap.3106169.jp
"The hall was pulled down in about 1800, and a farmhouse built on the site, some of the old materials being reused"

Bee mentioned there was a music in the park there last year but it was at The Old Hall, Spaldington according to the Hull City Council page so not sure if this was the farmhouse that was built on the site of the Hall.

Also found "Spaldington Hall, the seat of the ancient family of Vavasour, and a fine specimen of the Elizabethan style, was taken down in 1838" (British History Online)

This has left me confused, not hard to do!

Hi Nick,

Do you know where Elizabeth was from or who her parents were?

It just may be a clue but I have found a birth for a Christina Chaplin in 1902 and a Niall Greville Chaplin in the Pocklington area in 1908 so if these are their children must have stayed in the area. They are spelt without the 'a' so only a long shot as there were other Chaplin's in the area.

Hi

If you have her birth certificate it will give you the address where she was born and you will then know which area to look in, but he must have left Laytham between 1901 & 1907. You could narrow it down more if she has younger siblings & you know which registration area they are in.

The strange thing is that I have been helping a friend with her tree & she has a William Chaplin born c1821 at Bielby which is only about 4 miles from Laytham.
