1851 census - Charles Bainbridge - COMPLETED WITH THANKS TO GILL
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 20:00 GMT (UK) »

Looking for Charles and Anne Bainbridge on 1851 census.  From IGI, their children are: Elizabeth 1828, Jane 1831, Martha 1832, Charles 1835, Mary 1837 & Ellen 1839.  The children were born in York/York area.  Am wanting to know where Charles and Anne were born.

With very many thanks.

Hi Gill

Thank you for census details.  I had been hoping that at least some of the younger children would have been at home but it could be that they were all in service somewhere.  Will keep details to one side until I have done a bit more checking up on children, I know Mary got married in 1859, and will also do a search on IGI to see if I can see Charles and Ann's births.

With very many thanks.

Hi Zephyr

I looked at the 1841 Census for the family & then wondered if I had the right ones because they were given as 15 years older on the 1851 Census.

I haven't had time to look the others up yet but did find Jane on the 1851 Census at Hayton which would tie in with the Charles & Ann:

1851 Census at Cottage House, Hayton
HO107; Piece: 2357; Folio: 419; Page: 2
Margaret Cook, Wid, 33, Head, Born Scrayingham, Cottager
Mary Cook, 5, dau, born Hayton, Scholar
Ann Cook, 4, dau, born Hayton, Scholar
John Cook, 1, son, born Hayton
Jane Bainbridge, unmarr, lodger, 29, born York, Dressmaker

Gill
P.S. Sorry, she was 20 not 29, my typing

Hi Gill

Thank you for finding Jane.  I see she is a Dressmaker which is the same occupation as her sister Martha on 1871 census.   ****

On 1871 Martha is a widow with sons Alfred aged 15 (born Scrayingham) and George aged 13 (born Stamford Bridge).  From freebmd, Martha married a George Hodgson.  Any chance you can find family on 1861 census for me - this would then give me birth place for husband and there may be some older children as they married in 1851.

If you can help it would be very much appreciated.

With grateful thanks.

Zephyr

****  Just had a look at my notes.  Jane was born in 1831 which would make her 19/20 on 1851 census.  As this Jane is 29 it can't be 'mine' but thank you for looking for me.
