Help for brick wall please ????

hi all   
I have hit this brickwall and have not had any luck with it for months
    Some of you may remmember i was looking for my greatgrand father
I had been looking for  James Walter or Walter James Eves born in Strood in 1864
his marriage certificate in 1889 in shoreditch says his father is John Eves seafairing captain .
I found a Walter John Eves birth in 1863 in north aylsford and sent for the certificate but his father was a Richard Eves a Mariner
I thought i would go with it for a while as i know they did like to change there names a lot
I then started to look up this family i had no trouble finding them but it seems that Walter James Eves only lived under 1 year as i found his death and was never again seen with the family
So i am back to the start again as this is my direct blood line [maiden name]
can any one please tell me what to do next            Thanks for any help Huh
