When you say 'they', do you mean with his parents or was he married with a family?

www.findmypast.com - check for him under "F." as well.

It appears that he may have married in 1902 (freebmd) in West Bromwich. If you knew who he married that would help a lot.

Judy,

I went through the Toronto city directories today.  Frederick J. Payton first appears in 1919.  It looks like he spent his whole working life as a machinist and foreman at Dominion Wheel & Foundry Ltd.  Residences were 31 Ward in 1919 and 1921, 7 Phin Avenue in 1928-1930, and 11 Mountalan Avenue in the rest of the years I checked.  His last entry was in 1949.  After that, "Esther (wid Fredk J)" is listed at 11 Mountalan.

Nice work, mat...

welcome to rooschat, judy!

As jorose found he was married March Q.1902
Frederick James Payton to Esther Ellis in West  Bromwich (vol.  6b p. 1135 )
and this may be her birth information
December Q. 1879 / Esther Ellis  W. B.  vol. 6b  p.752

can only look at the entries but
An E E Payton age 33 came over in 1913 Liverpool  to Canada / p. Montreal

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Still can't seem to find an imm/entry for Frederick, ( 1902-1919) ....he may have said "f" and it became and "s" ??
Phin and Mountalan are within easy walking distance of each other, both on residential streets near major arteries.  Phin is opposite a large high school;  it is a very short street, not sure if 7 is a house or small apartment building, from memory.  But the other one, on Mountalan, is probably a house and still there.  I will try to check them out next time I am out on foot.  The one on Mountalan would likely have been fairly new at that time.
