I have traced a couple of my DUMVILLE family from Olney Bucks to Ashwell - except they are rarely registered as Dumvill(e); Durnville, Dunnble, Dumbile are some of the numerous variations. It doesn't help that they were also non-conformist
If anyone has access to Ashwell parish register I'd be very grateful for a lookup for the following: - marriage on 8 June 1794 between James Dumville and Elizabeth Kirbyshire. Who were the witnesses? James' occupation? Anything! - burial of Elizabeth Dumville 1794-7. James Dumville of Ashwell married in Potton Beds on 5 June 1797. I think it's the same James so am looking for a burial of Elizabeth. NBI starts in 1798 for Ashwell! - Thomas Darnwelle buried 1 Apr 1811 - is there any further detail? Son of James and Mary would be nice!
Many thanks in advance
David

Hi David,
Don't know if it's any help but there is a Death recorded for Thomas Dumville, son of James Dumville, died 1798 Hertfordshire on www.BMDRegisters.co.uk

Thanks Di, I've got him, he's the one I have been able to trace! He's the son of the second marriage.

Hi David
It may be worth trying the volunteer who offers Lookups from the Ashwell PRs at The Hertfordshire LU Exchange. Her offer covers the period but her offer says "abstracts" but you may be lucky!
http://graham.rootsweb.ancestry.com/herts_exchange/
Ashwell: Abstracts from the following Bishops Transcripts (1604-1686) Parish Registers: Baptisms (1686-1836) Marriages (1686-1837) Burials (1678-1836) Burials (1836-1863)

Hi Rick
Thanks for that - I've tried her but my email bounced "couldn't find any host named fastinternet.net.au"
I've alerted the organiser of the look up exchange
So back to square 1!
Regards
David

Hi David - I did try and do that look up this morning, but the microfilm reader at Baldock library is broken so I'm afraid I can't help at the moment. Sorry! Richard.

Thanks for trying Richard
Fri 30th update
My ex lives in Letchworth, and as I pay her enough and it's half term this week, she went into Baldock this afternoon to learn all about microfilm readers, and found what I was looking for. I didn't realise Baldock library kept microfilms - that's good to know. Thanks for the heads up Richard

I should have double checked the message board before trying again!
Oh well - you've probably already got all these then - it seems James was previously married to a Sarah, but I went through the Ashwell marriages back to about 1780 or so and couldn't see a marriage. Regards Richard.
Burials Register: No.171 A Still born child of James & Sarah Dumville was buried June 18th 1792 Registered by me W. Murgatroyd
No.188 Sarah wife of James Dumville was buried March 11th 1793 Registered by me W. Murgatroyd
Banns / Marriages register: No.266 Banns of Marriage between James Dumville Widower and Elizabeth Kerbyshire Spinster both of this Parish were published on the three several Sundays Viz May 11th 18th & 25th by me W. Murgatroyd the said James Dumville & Elizabeth Kerbyshire were Married in this Church by Banns this eight Day of June in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and ninety four by me W. Murgatroyd Curate This Marriage was solemnized between Us { Jas Dumvill / Elizabeth Kirbyshire [both signed] In the Presence of Elizabeth Kitchiner / Thos Kirbyshire [both signed]
Burial register: No.246 Elisabeth Dumville aged 20 of this Parish was buried Feby 11th 1796 Registered Feby 22 1796 by me R.J. Andrew Curate Small Pox in the 7th month of her Pregnancy
[there seems to have been an outbreak of small pox in Ashwell at this time - burials in this register don't generally give cause of death, but four of the entries on the same page as this one cite small pox, whilst another three note 'inoculated'.]
Banns / Marriages Register: No.289 Banns of Marriage between James Dumvill widower of this Parish and Mary Fickess [?] Spinster of the Parish of Potton in the county of Bedford were published on three several Sundays (viz) the 21st and 28th of May & on Sunday 4 of June 1797
Burial Register: Thomas Darnwelle aged [blank] of this Parish was buried April the first 1811 Registered 14th day of May by me Henry Pratt Beauchamp, Curate
A couple of other Darnells I noticed whilst finding the above: Burial Register:
No.24 Mary Darnell aged 24 ys of this Parish in this County was buried March 17th by the Parish Regsitered April 19th by me W Murgatroyd Curate
No.37 Elizabeth Darnell aged 6 weeks of this Parish in this County was buried May 8th 1785 Registered May 9th by me Wm Murgatroyd Curate

Thanks very much Richard - my ex, who's never used a microfilm reader nor looked at a parish register, only found the marriage, so the other entries you've found add a lot. Not sure how she missed them as she reckons she was in there for 2 hours, and went through the burials twice!
Glad the Darnell/Darnwells seem to be a different family as I'm trying to prove that the Dumvilles emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada before 1805.
I'm very grateful to you for going in again
Regards
David
