Erica - this might sound very defeatist .. but I think you are going to have to send for the marriage certificate of Mary to determine her marital status at the time of her wedding to Isaac .. ..

It would be like looking for a needle in a haystack I'm afraid! Ancestry is giving no clues away - unless someone else can hopefully prove me wrong?  Undecided

Thanks to you all for your help in this.
Mary remains an enigma!!!!
The Info on Isaac was great. I knew some of it but not all, and always wondered about his middle name Bibby. - Now i know!!!
Have told my Mother-in-Law that her Mother should have been Mary Bibby NOT Dawson! What a turn up!
Thanks again, and kind regards, Erica.

Hi,

My Mother-in-Law did some digging around today in some old papers and found mary's son's Birth Certificate! On it Mary's maiden name is .... GRAVE and NOT Parker!
She must have been a widow when she married Isaac Bibby Dawson in 1865. No wonder she couldn't be traced!
I wondered whether this may lead to info about her and her family and would appreciate any help you can give me.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Erica.

Erica that is good news - I'm sure Grave will be far easier to look for than Parker!  Cheesy

I will have a look tomorrow if someone hasn't already come up with her details earlier!

How silly of me - I've just remembered what Mary called her own son, this now looks a possibility!  Smiley

Hopefully I can now find some details from 1851 and 1861 .. ..

I wonder if this fits in ..

Marriage, Mar qtr 1862
Mary Grave
John Parker

There are approximately 5 deaths in the Ulverstone registration district for people by the name of John Parker - all between the years of Mary's first marriage and 1865!  Undecided

Oxen Fell, Stang End and Park can be seen on this map http://tinyurl.com/2bl4el

You can see the proximity to Little Langdale where people were wed etc.  Hawkshead itself is a couple of miles to the SE.

Hi to you both,

Thank you SO much for this information. MY Mother-in-Law is sitting next to me viewing all of this new info and we are both chuffed! It has completed her side of the family tree back to 6 generations now, so a BIG thank you.

Kind regards,

Erica (and direct descendent - Ruth)

This was the key to it all - and a lesson not to assume what appears to be obvious at first sight. Smiley
