A McPoland by name but a Downing by heart!
|
Hi
I wondered if anyone could help me find out more info about Mary Grave. I only found out tonight off my Mother-in-Law who found Marys Sons Birth Certificate what her maiden name actually was. (We thought it had been Parker up until now, but she must have been a widow when she married my Husbands great great Grandfather). This is what i know of her so far: She was born in 1832 in Hawkshead or the Westmorland area. When she married Isaac Dawson (b. 1843) on 2 Nov 1865 at Langdale by Ambleside she gave her name as Parker. (Hence the confusion!) They had 3 children, Harry (b. 1872), Benn (b. 1873) and Maggie (b. 1876). I don't know of any previous children. Mary died in 1899 in Kendal. Previous really helpful Rootschatters looked for Marys parents in vain, but could find no trace. Of course now i know why, because her maiden name was Grave and not Parker! (They suggested she may have been previously married due to her age and age gap with Isaac). I have no access to census data etc so i would be very grateful if anyone could find out anything about her parents or siblings etc. Many thanks, yet again! Regards, Erica.

Cannot locate Mary in 1851/1861 Census but did find her with family in 1841.
1841 Census Hawkshead, Lancs.
Ben Grave 55 Margt. Grave 50 Ben Grave 25 Dinah Grave 15 George Grave 15 Daniel Grave 13 Joseph Grave 10 Mary Grave 7 James Grave 3
The IGI shows Ben Grave married Margaret Dawson 10/12/1808 Hawkshead - the only baptism I could find was for son George bp.6/3/1826 Hawkshead.
The only Mary Grave marriage I could find to a Parker was a John Parker, married 1862 Mar. qtr. Ulverston, Cumbria. John Parker was a very common name and there are 6 deaths in Ulverston from 1862-1865 and 1 in Dec.1863 Kendal.
Hope this helps a little.
Annette
