Hi Juju

(that was my Granny's nickname, Juju, no idea why - her name was Winifred  Grin)

1891: Nantwich, Cheshire
Ref:  RG12 /  Piece 2856 / Folio 9 /  Pg 14
Address: 84 Bean (Beam?)  Street
Head: Ann DAVONPORT 69, married, (has no occupation listed)
Grand-Dau: Sarah J DAVONPORT 18, unm, Tailoress,
Boarder: Edith SPENCER 16, unm, Tailoress,
Grand-Dau: Ada DAVONPORT 10,
Boarder: Arthur BARNES 21, unm, Brick Yard Laborer,
Visitor: John DAVONPORT 64, married, Timber Hawker Carm.
ALL born Nantwich

That seems to tie up with the 1901 Nantwich (where I guess you have seen her listed as Ada SPENCER age 27, Tailoress,  in the household of couple Edwin and Sarah J BETTELEY age 29.....) . Sarah Jane DAVENPORT married Edwin BETTELEY Jun Qtr 1896 Nantwich.......

Cheers

Thank you Ambly and Sarah.

Juju is a nickname... nephew couldnt say Judith and the name stuck...lol
Actually, I dont have her in the 1901 census yet so thank you for the info. My Nan (mothers side) and Aunt lived on Wyche Ave. I was born Marsh Lane, Edleston. Somewhere down the line there is a link to the Sharratts, Fisher, Taylor, Hodgkinson, Hope, Wright and Galley, all from Nantwich. Then on my fathers side Bedson, Taylor Moore, Taylor. (So far). We moved to Norfolk about 35 years ago and I have not been back there for years. I remember as a child going back for holidays to my nans. Every year buying a season ticket for the baths... Wonder what happened to Fred. Playing by the canal towards Acton or down by the river below the bridge. I remember some of the shops and some of the roads vaguely.
Sarah, would it be possible to find out about some pictures in one of the local papers. Either the Nantwich Guardian or the Crewe and Nantwich Observer. The pictures were of the first eleven cricket team 1921 and the second eleven cricket team 1923. They were cut out and put into a photo album that belonged to my (gt) grandmother, I presumed that somewhere amongst them are relatives and my mother doesn't know any of them.  In the photo album is a pic of my gt gt grandmother, she looks so stern, I will have to get a copy of them.
Many thanks for all your help.
Happy Hunting

Hi Juju  Grin

Now...who was Fred?? The chap on the desk?  the lifeguard? Or a lad you had your eye on?  Grin  Grin  Grin

This the full 1901 for Edith /Ada!

1901: Nantwich, Cheshire
Ref: RG13 /  Piece 3362 /  Folio 59 /  Pg 13
Address: 109 Beam Street
Head: Edwin BETTELEY 31, Workers Machinist - Tailor, b Nantwich CHE
Wife: Sarah J BETTELEY 29, Machinist - Shirt, b Willaston CHE
Son: Harold BETTELEY 5 months, b Nantwich CHE
Boarder: Ada SPENCER 26, unm, Tailoress, b Nantwich CHE
Boarder: Annie C HARA 6, b Nantwich CHE

The child boarder Annie, her name certainley looks clearly as I've transcribed, (though the middle initial might be an E). But I wonder if perhaps her surname was O'HARA and the enumerator wrote or copied it down incorrectly......

Cheers

lol Ambly..
Fred was the fella behind the desk, took your money, gave you your basket to put your clothes in etc. I didn't pay much attention to boys back then, they were horrible creatures. Think I was all of 7 years old when we left Cheshire.
Thank you for the 1901 census info.
Quite possibly O' Hara. I spent ages looking for Sharratt in the 1901 and finally found it under Shanatt, after seeing the original hand written census it was easy to see how it got transcribed wrong.
