Yarmouth Look Up please - Agnes Druery
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 12:12 GMT (UK) »

Hi

I am trying to find the birth/christeniing record for Agnes Druery born abt 1819. She married Henry Reah in 1840 at Sunderland.

Any clues appreciated.

I know this is nowhere near Yarmouth, but on the IGI is the following baptism.

Agnes Drury bap. 14th July, 1819 at St. Hilda,  South Shields, Durham

daughter of George and Susannah.

There are other children of this couple bap same place.

Robert, 1823
George, 1819
Sarah, 1828

I see according to the 1851 census two of their children are named George and Susannah.

Do you have census records?

Agnes could have been born in Yarmouth and the family moved on up north.

Does her marriage cert give her fathers name?

Thank you for replying.

I will look into your suggestions and get her marriage certificate. There are no IGI baptisms for Yarmouth. I didn't think of them moving as most people didn't tend to. However wouldn't be hard to nip on a boat at South Shields for a week or two in sunny Yarmouth.

I think getting the marriage cert is the best way to go. Know only too well the heartbreak of following the wrong family.

In 1841 there is a possible Susannah with a 20yr old George who was a mariner living in Seaham Harbour - Dalton le Dale, who could be the mum.

Probably a seafaring family.

Does that help at all.

BINGO !!!!!!!

Dad George is there in 1851, he was probably away at sea in 1841. and his birthplace is given as GORLESTON, next door to Yarmouth.

George is listed as a ships master, receiving relief from Trinity and Huh seamans fund.

Thanks.

Sounds totally plausible. I'll have a good look tonight when I have a chance to look at the census data.
