My 3G Grandfather John Arnot was born in Tweedmouth around 1817. He married Agnes (b around 1818) from Kyloe and had a number of children the earliest that we have found in 1845.
To date we have not been able to confirm the date of their marriage, Agnes's surname and have a more than one possibility for John's parents.
I anyone has access to any records which might help us with this brick wall I would be very grateful for their help.
Thanks in anticipation and best regards

Sorry for delay, thanks both !! Thomas the butcher is certainly one of the options worth following up.

Hi Charjack, Just came across your post. I have a John Arnot on our family tree born about 1817 Tweedmouth. On the 1851 cenus it says his wife is named Agnes . Are this any of his children , Andrew 1845 from Lowick,William 1848, Elizabeth 1850 from Norham Mains. If so i can give you the date of their marriage and Agnes maiden name.

Hi Dave, Sorry in taking so long to answer but nothing had come up on my e-mail. This is the only information i have. Johns wife was Ann Harmison even though it said Agnes in the 1851 Cenus,They married at Lamberton Toll on the 7th of June 1840. Ann,s Parents were Andrew Harmison & Isabella Keddie. There was another 7 children in her family. Ann died 2nd of April 1865. I don,t have Johns parents. I have 7 children for John & Ann. I have the years they may have been born but no actual dates of birth. The Harmison name ended up with quite a few different spellings. Do you have the date of Johns death, if not i can give it to you. I can also give you the dates of Ann,s Siblings if you would like them. Do you have any dates for any of the Arnots.
Regards
Scully

Hi Scully Thank you very much for the information. To date I had been following the lead in the earlier post of the John living in North Sunderland with father Thomas "the Butcher" in 1841 but this information has blown that theory out of the water !!. I understand that Lamberton Toll was the "Gretna of the East" do you think that there is any intrigue here as Ann also later uses the name Agnes (although Ann on 1841 census), and there does not seem any obvious logic as to why they may have been married there ?. Given the change in the John assumption I am sorry I cant give you any further information on him or his parents yet and would be grateful if you could give me his death date. His daughter Elizabeth is my direct ancestoral link to John and I can provide more information on her life if it is of interest. I would also be interested in Ann's Siblings.
Thanks and best regards Dave

Hi Dave, I would like the information on Elizabeths life. Quite a few people married across the border for one reason or another. I forgot to put Ann died at Windmill hill, Northumberland. John died 14th of October 1887, Akeld steads.
Ann,s Siblings were: James Harmison 1796, John 1798, Andrew !803, These were born Sprouston, Roxburgh, Scotland. Then we have George 3/8/1805 Berrington Law, William 25/9/1808 Ford, Mark 9/1/1813 Berrington Law, Agnes 15/6/1818 Kyloe, Ann 1819. Ann,s father Andrew died 28/3/1846 Berrington Law.
