Hi
Despite my psuedonym I am a Newman and have just traced back what I believe are my ancestors. It is 90% plus there but you do need to be sure before you wrap it up. I am back to the following 1851 census and this refers to Taynton, Oxon not Taynton, Gloucs which is close the Leafield, Langley
Record HO 107/1732 - 162/1 for Langley Oxon
Samuel Newman Head 82 Shepherd/Pauper - Oxon, Taynton Jane Newman Wife 77 Shepherd Pauper - Oxon, Langley Joseph Newman Son 50 Farm Labourer - do Benjamin Newman Son 26 Robert Newman son 21 Charlotte Newman dau ?? George Newman Son 13 Phillip Newman Son 11
I am not sure whether your Newman's and mine are linked. Heres a quick synopsis of mine.
I have Joseph here with his children and a grandson Joseph in 1861 and 1871 Not sure yet about the legitimacy but the Grandson married a Catherine and moved from the leafield/langley area to Cowley. Their son Joseph Leonard moved to Portsmouth where my father was born.
regards Will

I'm not sure if there is any link at all...
But I have a missing G/Grandfather, who was a Thomas Louis Newman. I have no idea of where he was born, or who his parents were, - all I have is his photo! (Which I will try & post here:-)
On my Grandmother's, (Beatrice Minnie Newman) Birth Cert, his name is given as her father, Occupation 'Comedian'. He then disappeared out of her life...(he apparantly had another 'wife' & family), although she told me that her & her mother went to his funeral, (sometime during WW1).
My G/Grandmother, Frances Newman, (née Dyer) was born in 1870, & lived in East Grinstead & then South London, & so I would expect that her Thomas Louis Newman would have been born (approx) 1860's/1870's.
I'd be interested if any Newmans on here can spot any family resemblance!!!

Thanks for the quick reply. If our families are linked it is possibly when they go back to Taynton. Thomas appears to have been born there c 1760 but he married a Langley girl so one would guess he left there around 1780-85. If your family come from Taynton then there is a high probability but it will be hard work with Parish registers establishing it. It may be months or years before I can get more detail on the Taynton Newmans of 1600-1800 but when I do I will post it here.
In terms of recent history I have nothing. My father was raised by his Grandmother and Aunt. I never met my Grandparents and there is no family memorabilia except for bad blood. Not much ever said of what happened.
Thanks
