Fireman Date and Clean up please

Please can anyone give this Fireman a Clean up and possibly date him.
A bit of colour would be nice.
I think it was taken in Stockport Cheshire. Found in some old family photos, but I don't know his name.

Hi Joan,

I can not really help in so much as dating this photograph except in saying that the fireman's helmet that he is wearing first came into being on 1st January 1866 and was introduced by Sir Eyre Massey Shaw when he took over the Metropolitain Fire Service in London. Have you contacted the Fire & Police Musuem in Sheffied as they maybe able to throw some light on the date of the uniform, their web site and contact details can be found at
