Am I likely to find anything in the South African archives about my Uncle (a British subject) Gordon Eady Stacey Williams - he was in the British Army in WW2 and apprently died in South Africa.
I have found his details on the Commonwealth War Graves Commision website
Name: WILLIAMS, GORDON EADY STACEY Initials: G E S Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Driver Regiment/Service: Royal Army Service Corps Date of Death: 19/09/1944 Service No: T/87258 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Mil. Sec. Grave 237. Cemetery: JOHANNESBURG (WEST PARK) CEMETERY
I understand from the General Regsiter Office in the UK that he died in South Africa after being discharged from the British Army - and therefore I belive he should have a South African death certificate and not a British one.
An example of the information contained in the Death Notice is one of the sticky topics at the top of this board. Also in the file you may find his Will, L&D Accounts or various bits of correspondence involved in the winding up of his Estate.
You can order pics of the file contents as per one of the other sticky topics at the top of this board.
Good luck. Moira
