Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi everyone I am new on this forum and I am trying to find any information I can on Edward Beeston born 1847 [DecQ, vol 19, 454] in Derby (St Peter). He was christened on 21 Nov 1847 St Peter, Derby. I can find him on the 1851 census but I cannot trace him after this. In 1851 he lived with his mother Jane and grandfather Thomas and grandmother Joanna. His mother was Jane Beeston born late 1826 or early 1827, who I think married in Derby in 1853 [JunQ, 7b, 112] but not entirely sure. It looks like she may have died in 1858 in Derby [MarQ, 7b, 289] though again not sure. Edward kept his given name at birth though his Mother may have married when he was 5-6yrs old. Just trying to find any info I can. Any lookup would be really appreciated. Plus I really need to know who he was living with in 1861 as he wasn't living with his Grandfather who was in 1861 living only with his youngest daughter Caroline at a different address.
Thanks for any help. Jul

Thanks Ricky Yes I do believe he married a Keziah and their firstborn was Edward. I would ideally like to know where he was before he got married, i.e. in 1861 when he would have been about 13-14.
Thanks for your input

Hi Jul and Ricky,
The marriage reference for a Jane Beeston in 1853 was a little suspicious as the other entries for that page didn`t match. So I took a look at the orginal and it should be 7B page 612. Typing this reference in for the right year and quarter brings up two possible spouses Edwin Scott and Joseph Blackton.
Now bear with me .... on the 1861 there is a Joseph Blacknall 44 Born Milford, Derbyshire, wife Jane 36 and children including an Edward aged 13.
1871 has the same family with the correct name of Blackton.
References are : 1861 RG9/2501 folio 9 page 17 1871: RG10/3560 Folio 47 page 17
If you need the full transcripts let me know.
Regards, Mo

Thanks Mo
Does it list Edward as Edward Beeston on the 1861 census. Just wondering how you found him? All I know really is that his name stayed the same throughout his life as he went on to marry Keziah and his children were all Beestons. Would it have been the norm back then for the step-child to not be adopted and would a non-name change have been the norm. I haven't got a clue really. Thanks for your help on this

Hi,
1861
1 Bradshaw Street, Derby
Joseph Blacknall, Head, Mar, 44, Railway Porter, Derbyshire Milford JANE, Wife, Mar, 36, Derby EDWARD, Son, Un, 13, Cotton Lace? Hand, Derby Joseph, Son, 8, Scholar, Derby John, Son, 4, Scholar, Derby Jane, Daur, 1, Derby
1871
15 Busby Place, Derby
Joseph Blackton, Head, M, 56, Labourer, Derbyshire Milford Jane, Wife, M, 48, Derby Joseph, Son, Un,17, Labourer, Derby John, Son, 13, Labourer, Derby Jane, Daur, 11, Scholar, Derby Henry, Son, 9, Scholar, Derby Fanny, Daur, 6, Scholar, Derby Thomas, Son, 4, Scholar, Derby Elizth, Daur, 1, Derby
On the 1861 census Edward is listed as a Blacknall. It may be worthwhile looking at his actual baptism record as it may just have a note saying who the alledged father was.
I believe the above Joseph Blackton was on the 1851 married to a Jane but with just a son callled William aged 9. Jane was born Tiverton Devon and was then aged 35. Possible death of a Jane Blacknall in Derby in Sept. Qtr. 1851.
I think the only way to prove that the above is indeed your Jane Beeston would be to send for the marriage certificate.
I have just "googled" derbyshire "Joseph Blackton" there is a thread on one of the rootschat boards going back to April, 07 regarding his son William. I think they were getting confused as they couldn`t find Edward on the 1851 census.
Regards, Mo

wow! I just googled Joseph Blackton and Derby and found the rootschat link and yes Jane Beeston is mentioned : http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=b801ce35a5d82265fc0d6a4a0f086409&topic=227512.msg1204790
Edit: Sorry Mo was half asleep last night when I first responded to your last post .. now after a good night's sleep it is all sinking in and making sense . I had forgotten what you had researched and wrote above and got sidetracked by what was on that other link. Yes: Edward was definitely living with Jane Beeston (his Mum) in 1851
Thank you so much for all your help..

Hi Sorry to be a bother again but am hoping someone can tell me where Edward's Mum Jane Beeston (born abt 1825 Derby) was living in 1841 and if she was a scholar or working. She would have been about 15 yrs old.
It would be great also if someone could also find out where Joseph Blackton was living and working in 1851.
Thanks in advance for any help..
