William Doughty born Bridgenorth.
« on: Wednesday 31 October 07 16:42 GMT (UK) »

Hi,I was wondering if anyone happens to have access to parish records in Bridgenorth,Shropshire. I am trying to find the baptism of William Doughty born about 1796. in Bridgenorth.
I dont have any other information than that but I do know that in  his later life he was a Barge Owner and employed around five men.
hope someone is able to help with this,
many thanks in anticipation, JUNE.

Hi,
Are you referring to the William DOUGHTY listed on the Bridgnorth census from 1841 to 1861, until his death in Feb 1864?
If so, he consistently gave his birthplace as Broseley, Shropshire, not Bridgnorth.

Gwynne,
the one that I am interested in is definately Bridgenorth. he was born around 1796 and on the 1841 census he is down as a Barge Owner with his wife Mary, sons Richard and Danica and daughter Sarah, living at Underhill Street.

Many many thanks Gwynne for taking the trouble to list the last message for William Doughty, it looks as though by what you have written his first wife died  and he remarried someone else from Worcestershire.I am very grateful for you taking the trouble to send me all of this information much appreciated.

Yes.   From my own transcript of marriages at St. Mary’s church Bridgnorth (that aren’t listed on the IGI) we have;

10 Apr 1855.

William DOUGHTY, Full age, Widow, Warfinger & Owner of Underhill St. Father = William DOUGHTY, Owner.
to
Ann SENIOR, Full age, Widow of St John’s St. Father = Benjamin KENNING?, Weaver.
