According to papers when he arrived in New South Wales in 1829, John Little was 29 years old, married with four in family. No education. Protestant and native place was Yorkshire. He was a shepherd, ploughs, reaps and milks.
He was tried at York on 22 March 1828 and had two former convictions.
Is he the same man as one of these: John Little and John Little the younger, pleaded guilty at Northallerton, 11 April 1820, to stealing three brass pans, and four hens.
Also how do I find his marriage and births of children. What happened to his wife and children after he was sent to Australia?

Hi There.......
John was stated to be from Aiskew, when he was tried in 1828.......
I am pretty certain this is your man........
John Little / baptised 19th May 1799 at Bedale/ father John Little / mother Mary
Bedale is about 4 miles from Aiskew
John Little married MARY HUNTER / 7th december 1818 at Burneston
Burneston is the next village to Bedale again about 4 miles or so from Aiskew
John LITTLE an MARY HUNTER had 4 children........
Anne / baptised 23rd January 1820 at Bedale Christopher / baptised 14th October 1821 at Bedale Jane / 15th June 1823 at Bedale Isabella / baptised 18th September 1825 at Bedale
It looks like this is two of the children, with Grandma in 1841
Mary Little / age 60 / born in County Christopher / age 19 / agricultural labourer / born in County Anne / age 21 / born in County Jane Little / age 1 / born in County
The area of Bedale , Burneston and Aiskew, is beautiful Farming country. I live about half an hour away. If you "google" Genuki, Bedale, you will be able to see what it was like, and I think there will be photo's of the churches
Christopher married in 1845........
As I said, with the info from the assizes, this would appear to be your man, and he would be called the younger, because his father bore the same name........
Hope this helps

Hi Jeannie
How wonderful !!! Thank you so much. I really thought it would be like finding a needle in a haystack to find John Little.
I will certainly follow these leads up - you never know where they might go. It must have been a harsh time for the wife and family who were left, as well as Grandma. I'll have to try and find her death in freeBMD, but it might be another needle in a haystack - at least I have a starting date and an age.
As soon as I finish here, I will look up Bedale to get an idea of the surroundings.
I can't thank you enough.
