Rutter Family... Kingston/Surrey

I am helping a friend with his family tree and have found his fathers birth certificate listing his parents as residing in Canbury Park Rd Kingston at the time of his birth. I am trying to go back one step now and find their marriage..I am unsure of where but I have  a date

Father... Joseph Rutter born 1904
Mother...Florence Maude Ellen Barrett born --23-05-1905
Married 16-6-1928.  Joseph was the son of Samuel Rutter and Mary Ann James..

Where do I go from here?

Hello Anna,

It sounds that you have got off to a great start !

You need to look up the marriage in the St Catherines Index.  You can find this (free of charge) at your main library for family history research.  The St Catherines Index lists all Births, Marriages and Deaths for the whole of the country from 1837 onwards, which is divided into quarters by the month, and then by year.

Once you have located this Marriage on the Index, there will be the name followed by the reference number and the area where the Marriage took place. Using this information you will be then able to apply for the Certificate.
