Hello Fellow Rootschatterers
Trying not to overload the system too much at present but I have a query. I have traced my maternal grandfather's family of Saxtons back to Joshua Saxton who married an Elizabeth Hackett. How do I go about trying to find his birth/baptism details? Family Search has the event but no parents names.
Is this the point at which I physically need to go to Nottingham Records Office to search Parish Records. I am a bit hazy about these as, I confess, I have done most of my research by computer.
My son lived in Nottingham for many years and only after he left did I find some of my ancestors were born there. Typical, I could have taken advantage of free board and lodging!

Hi there Well in 1851 your Joshua was quite specific in saying he was born Nottingham St Nicholas. I found the following baptisms in the transcriptions which seem to tally well with the naming patterns of your family. Sadly, there is a gap just where you'd expect to see Joshua 1806/7!
Baptisms Nottingham St Nicholas to Joshua and Sarah Saxton
Eliza 02/04/1800 Henry 22/08/1802 Priscilla 19/02/1804 Mary 19/06/1808 Sarah 03/06/1810
Likely marriage Joshua Saxton and Sarah Turvey Arnold 30/05/1794
Two earlier possibles at Nottingham St Mary Amy Rebecca 01/01/1795 Harriett 12/06/1796
There is a Joshua Saxton buried Nottingham St Peters 23/11/1823 age 52 Also a Sarah Saxton buried there 16/02/1845 age 76
Might give you some ideas anyway...personally I'd double check St Nicholas registers to see if he was missed when transcribing. I'd also look at the marriage in the registers to see if any other names are mentioned to give you a clue.
Heather

Thank you for all the hard work you have done Heather. It was very kind. Do I need to go to Nottingham Record Offices in person to search these Registers or what. Please excuse my stupidity! Is this why people go to Kew in person to look up family history queries?
