St.Vincents
« on: Thursday 01 November 07 18:27 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I have a death certificate for my gg grandfather.

He died in 1945 in St.Vincents.

I am un-able to read the name of the informant of his death but under their name it says occupier, st.vincents.

I thought St.Vincents was a hospital but am now wondering whether it is also an area of Kildare.

If it was a hospital (forgive me for this) but would it have been a normal hospital or a live in hospital. Also if someone did die there would they have been buried locally.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

There's a St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin. It was founded by Mother Mary Aikenhead, foundress of the Religious Sisters of Charity, and established at St Stephen's Green in 1834. There appears to be a St Vincents Hospital in Athy which is for older people. I'm not certain when it was founded.

Celtic Damsel may be able to assist ... see her Do you need help in Athy, Co Kildare thread.
