Hi Jo
I don't know what dates your Beevers are, but have you asked Migky to look in his 1927? directory?
Good luck!

Hi Jo
Glad you found some!
Have you thought of looking in telephone directories if you want to go further forward? There are some on line, Ancestry? and also I don't know about other Local Studies libraries, but ours keeps a fairsized group of old telephone directories.
Good luck!

Emms
Can you do a look up for me please? I'm looking for a family of Clarke's (or Clark's), Names should be Arthur, Elsie and Ernest in I think Guide St. Salford 3. I've also been told that Arthur owned a shop somewhere in Salford but I don't know exactly where it was.
Would appreciate any info on anyone living in the same household
Thanks
Kelly

Hi Emms,
I think I'm looking at 13 Guide St. as Migkey has kindly pointed out that Caroline Clarke was there in 1927. Possibly Arthur and Ernest's mother as Arthur was married in 1939 to Elsie Fearn, went off to war and my mum was born in 1947 which must have been 9 months after he was demobbed.
This is a total guess but we think the household would have consisted of the following in 1954.
Arthur Clarke Elsie Clarke Ernest Clarke (Arthur's brother) Eric Fearn (Elsie's brother) Possibly an Auntie Dot and Uncle George (don't know if they're fearns or clarkes) A lodger, Ernest Starkey (married Elsie in 1960 after Arthur died) 2 children named Ann Denise 7 and Patricia 1.
I know its unlikely the children would have been included but I do know Ann Denise went to St Luke's primary school, Salford.
Thanks for any info you can help us with, hopefully you'll be able to confirm the guesses.
Kelly

Hi Kelly
I've had a look since i came back in then had a visitor.
I'm afraid it doesn't fit exactly what you've told me., but there are quite a few that fit only one person, so isf it were a shop it would be in just one person's name. I'll have a more detailed look, and type some then get phot's of the pages off to you, as there are hoards of Clarkes. I'll copy variations and the other names too.
Do you know what sort of buisiness we're talking about?
I'm afraid there's only one premises in Guide St lsited. Off a bigger Road. Could have been absorbed in the bigger one thougnh.
I'll get back to you tomorrow.
Sorry it's not more straight forward.
Best wishes

Hi Emms, sorry thats all the info I have. If possible could you send me what you do have. I know the family lived on Guide St. so could have been above or behind the business if indeed it was based there.
The business itself would have been listed under Arthur's name I think as he was the head of the family. My sister and I remember mum saying her family was well off for the area as he had a shop. She never did say what type of shop and getting info out of her was like wrenching teeth out with a tweezer.
