Hi Berni,
There are bells ringing in my head about an isolation unit there, but I can't just pin the thoughts down Sad It would have been known as Crumpsall Hospital at that time if this helps.

There was an isolation hospital within a few miles that specialised with TB etc - Monsall Hospital.

Will keep my thinking cap on Grin

Monsall Isolation Hospital (on Monsall Rd)was very near to the Crumpsall (Delaunays Rd) hospital. My mother was sent to Monsall in the 1930s with suspected diphtheria.

Access2Archives have a hospital records database which I've found very helpful in giving you dates and addresses on which hospital was where, and what different names they had:

Good luck!  Smiley

Hi Berni

I think it was just a practice then to refer to the hospitals in that way - my parents were both born at Withington Hospital in Manchester & their birth certificates state 20 Nell Lane.

I think that the current North Manchester hospital is still used for isolation cases - there was something on the BBC news a couple of weeks ago about a person with TB who was arrested & sent there because he would not comply with his treatment & he was a risk to the community.  Also, when the SARS cases were about a few years ago, there was reference to the isolation unit at the Infectious Diseases Unit at NMGH.

The A2A site recommended by Barbara is an excellent place to start.

Hi Berni

From a historical point of View, Delaunays road was names after My 5x Great Grandfather and his Family.
More info can be found here http://chimleys.tribalpages.com/

As far as I am aware there was an Isolation Unit at North Manchester General Hospital, but I can find out for sure, from another relative, as his Auntie also died from TB.

The hospital was Crumpsall Workhouse.

Hope this helps in some way.

Slightly off topic.  I've just realised that I've never looked at my birth certificate for the address where I was born.  I know it was Beechmount Nursing Home, in N.Manchester but that's it.  I'm off to get my certificate from the filing to look at it properly.  May as well look at OH's at the same time.

Also slightly off topic - what an interesting site!  Is the Delaunay family connected to Robert Delaunay, the Cubist painter, at all?

Hi Barbara

No - our Delaunays are not related to Robert Delaunay or to Sonia Delaunay (the painter).

Thank you Liverpool Annie.  I hadn't thought of looking for a photograph of my birthplace.

Interestingly, my birth certificate - which I eventually looked at - states I was born at North Manchester Hospital, Blackley, which is odd as my mother from when I was small told me I was born at Beechmount.  I wonder if it was an offshoot or the Maternity Unit of North Manchester Hospiital.  I know I was born in Manchester rather than Cheshire where my mum was living - dad had gone off to war - as mum had a shop and it wasn't thought suitable for me to be born there, even though the health authority of the time said it was OK.  So my mum arranged to be admitted to Beechmount as it was near to her mother-in-law's home.
