Hi Muffin

I've been told they are quite good but no personal experience, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Just being nosey, where in Woking was she in 1901?

Certainly very promising ....I only asked as the History Centre is situated at Goldsworth School which is reasonably near to the town centre. I don't know how much of it is still standing though, I was brought up in Woking but haven't been into the town area for some years.

I looked for her in the Teachers Registrations without success - was she married by the time that came in, in 1914, or had she stopped teaching by then? If we can find a register entry for her it will list all the teaching posts she held during her career.

There are some other Snooks listed - perhaps some of them are related to Edith:

ALICE ISABELLA
ARTHUR ERNEST
ARTHUR GEORGE
ETHEL MARY ELIZABETH
HENRY
JOHN HENRY THOMAS
LILIAN LOUISE ELLEN

The Snooks that you listed are not related as far as I know. There is a Henry Frederick Snook born 1871 in Westminister who was her cousin.
I have no other details about him.

I have not found a marriage for Edith Snook after 1901 as yet.

Maybe someone else can help?

Hi all... I live in Woking Grin  Not far from Maybury Road in fact.  If you would like me to go and look at anything near by just let me know. I could take photos or whatever.

Also -  I havn't been to the Surrey History Centre yet as I my family are not local and I can't think of anything specific to go and research. Sad Sad I've been hoping to find some reason to go - to add purpose to my visit - so do let me know if there is anything I can look up for you.

Hi Milly,

If you can find the time and look for any information about Edith Snook´s Teaching carrer in Woking. Smiley

There was a local School Board which run the schools before 1903 when the Surrey County Council to over this work.
The school in Maybury was in School Board Road, There was another school in Goldsworth Road at this time.

Maybe the archives have some documents Huh

Let me know if I can send you a personal message

Hi Muffin

If you PM me all the relevant info you have and let me know roughly what you already have so I don't duplicate) then I will take it along and see what I can find.

Glad to have a specific reason for going along to get to know the place
