"Missing" Wife of West Hammer
« on: Sunday 04 November 07 19:26 GMT (UK) »

Could any of you kind folks find the maiden surname and any further information regarding E. E. MacKenzie, widow of Alexander MacKenzie?
Alexander was born 1887 St Saviours and married in 1910. He died from TB age 27 in 1914 at 59 Pond Road, West Ham.
The FreeBMD does not give the lady's name unfortunately...
Thanks!

Any children born before he died ?  we should be lucky if so, as Maiden name shown from 1911 ...

otherwise you'll have to get the Cert, or reevaluate those initials ?

Death cert clearly says "E. E"
I haven't tracked down any children...yet.
Looks like I will have to find the reference for the marriage certificate.

At least I think I can rule out Miss Sapsford.
Mary Harriet Sapsford married Alexander's brother Charles in December 1910 at West Ham Register Office. They had two children Charles Henry and Kathleen Rosina.
I did see reference to an Alexander MacKenzie born West Ham June 1911 (4a 98), but have no further details.

Just a suggestion.
Try the births on FreeBMD because the mothers surname is listed after Sept Q 1911.
They list up to 1921 for West Ham.

There is a daughter born to Mackenzie/Clark in
Westham 1913 J-S 4a 238 Ellen M MacKenzie.
this daughter died in 1914 A-J West Ham 4a 80 aged 0 (the same quarter as your Alexander)
might be worth while you applying for this childs death cert to see if she was a resident of 59 Pond Road.
If so your problem is solved.

Just because E.E Mackenzie was on the death cert does not mean she used those names to marry. I have come across it time and time again in my own family. They pick and choose what names they wish to use, not very helpful i know.

Maybe she was called Ann Eliza Ellen but then just chose to use Eliza Ellen or vice versa

i came across this marriage

Ellen E MacKenzie
1919 O-D
West Ham 4a 715
she married a George A GILL

Sorry it's not much help.
