Having greatfully received lots of unexpected information on my London family for more recent years. From a rootschatter a few month ago,i have been trying to find a newspaper that covers a place named Abinger Hammer. With the info i received it was as i had suspected for years,i do still have family in Surrey, near my generation .I cant find a newspaper though can anyone point me in the right direction please . I also have the Orbit of my mothers cousin that says the funeral service was held at St Andrews Church.Kingswood but it doesn't say if Leonard was cremated or buried.Where burials still taking place in the churchyard in 1981 or was there a crematorium nearby

I don't know, I'm afraid, but Dorking is the nearest town so I would imagine so.

Ah - Abinger Hammer and that lovely old pub - my misspent youth, drinking King & Barnes bitter and reading the Surrey Comet...
Oh! Not wasted! Celia - try the Surrey Comet!

No, Celia, I'm afraid I didn't. But I lived 30 munutes drive away, and friends and I took it in turns to drive there to have a walk and couple of pints on a Sunday evening.
We probably walked over the farm if there were footpaths.

I found Sutton Place Farm on the old maps early 1870's,It doesn't exist now but at leased i now know it was a Farm and not a place name I cant understand what Leonard was doing on a Farm Because My Mathew Family had nothing whatsoever to do with farming. They were Engineers of various kinds through the generations

Maybe he was helping the farmer with one of those new-fangled traction engines?
