I wonder if anyone out there is familiar with Sunningdale, Surrey. I am interested in the house that Captain H. Allison lived in around 1924/5. I believe Capt Allison was well known and my mother(age 14) and grandmother both worked at his house. I heard stories about this large house and would love to see it.
I know its a long shot but worth a try. Thanks Jean

Unfortunately Sunningdale was and still is full of large houses. It particularly attracts Army personnel due to its closeness to Windsor and Sandhurst. The local polo clubs and other sports played by the officer classes were another attraction.

I don't know if this will help, taken for the Telephone Directory on Ancestry.
Capt. Hubert ALLISON lived at Knole Wood, Sunningdale
He was still there in 1941 and the address was now spelt Knowle Wood.

The Sunningdale New Course was opened around 1923 and designed by Harry Colt. The Old Course designed by Willie Park is much older. The nearby Wentworth course was opened around 1924 and its second eighteen holes in 1927.

Jean,
If you have access to Google Earth, type in the following postcode in the "Fly to" box:
SL5 9QR
That is the location of Kno(w)le Wood, in Devenish Road. From the look of the buildings, I would say that the original house is no more and has been replaced with three similar blocks of flats. Thirty-three flats are listed.
