Strange defaulting
« on: Wednesday 29 December 04 10:37 GMT (UK) »

When I look at a message on a board such as The Common Room, where I have posted, or "Unread replies to your posts", and then press the back button to get back to the board, it seems to default to an earlier version of those screens.  I have to click on "The Common Room" or the "Unread replies to your posts" to get back to the screen I want, the current one.

It is starting to drive me demented!  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening???

Hi Marie ,

It took me a while to figure out that if I look at a posting on

"Show unread posts since last visit." or  "Show new replies to your posts."

and then click "Back", that the postings I was just looking at then disappear !

Then it "clicked": If I look at it, then the posting is then neither "unread" nor a "new reply" any more, so it disappears from these lists !

Is this the problem you are having, or have I misunderstood you ?

I think the key is to navigate using the buttons on RootsChat rather than using the "Back" button on your browser - some browsers keep a "cache" of a previous page - you can navigate by clicking the text next to the leaves of the "branches" or by clicking the "home" button.

Thanks guys!

Trystan, what you said sounds likely.  I will just have to do that.  Unless you can tell me how to clear caches (I have an Apple Mac and Safari as a browser)?

Bob, no the problem wasn't that "unread messages" are no longer unread - it is this problem of an earlier page, which is why Trystan's suggestion sounds likely.

The safari cache comes in for some considerable criticism in a number of forums and it would appear to cause just the symptons you have described one option to assist with this problem was claimed to be safari enhancer available from http://www.lordofthecows.com/safari_enhancer.php

Thanks Falkryn!

Lord of the cows, eh?  Strange name for a website.  I will go there and see what I can discover.
