Can anyone let me know what I am or am not allowed to put on my Rootschat site? I know that low-res census excerpts are allowed on some areas of the forums, for help deciphering handwriting, etc. but what about on our own websites? For example, can I put extracts from parish registers that I've photocopied, as long as I acknowledge the records office where I obtained them? Or is anything like that out-of-bounds

From what I can gather the 'artwork' of, for example, a census page, is copyrighted but the information isn't, and so if the information is extracted by a transcriber and then that transcription is put, for example, on a webpage it becomes the transcriber's 'artwork' and therefore, although the information is public domain, the copyright of the actual transcription belongs to the transcriber.
