Could anyone tell me why the visitor counter on my Rootschat web page web page has suddenly gone back to zero? (it's now back to 7!?)

it's not just yours - all the counters went back to zero yesterday,
when the RootsChat webspace server went down.

No, the external stat-counters are stored elsewhere, it's just the counter data from the RootsChat counter that got lost, as that is also stored on the webspace server.
