'Modern Home' magazine ?? & willow pattern
« on: Thursday 08 November 07 18:24 GMT (UK) »

Here's another of my mothers 'treasures' ... is there no end (no, I don't think so !   She never threw anything away in 93 years !)

Its a willow pattern printed onto a 12" piece of linen ... do you suppose it was given away with a magazine ?  Does anyone know about 1920's magazines ?

I've actually got four of them, so thought sewn together, they might make a nice cushion for the kitchen ...

My Mum has something similar which she has embroidered. It was from a magazine (not your Mum's - more likely Women's Weekly)

Old Bleach Linen Co., Ltd. was in Randalstown, Antrim, Northern Ireland:

My mother-in-law's cousin worked there for years.

It looks very complicated to embroider ... but perhaps I had better check it somehow in case its one of those transfers which would wash off !

I have a vague idea I have seen one which she cut out, so I've got four squares, and a fifth round one ... I could wash the odd one and see what happens !

Watch this space !

aghadowey  ... thanks for the link to the linen place !   How places change ... but it is ever thus !

Do I remember that Mum ironed that pattern onto fabric?

You are thinking of a transfer (a mirror image so that any writing appeared backwards) which was ironed onto a piece of fabric.
