Can anyone help track down a death certificate for person below whowas last recorded on the 1901 Census with family in Arbroath.

Hi Wildgoose,

If Mary Martin nee Ramsay was still alive when husband John Martin Died in 1910, then the only way to find her death would be to search on Scotlands People year by year until you find the death or else at the records office in Edinburgh.

Perhaps she remarried after John Martin's death. 

This seemed to be fairly common in the days before the welfare state when a woman's husband died, and she still had children to bring up. She had to find herself another husband PDQ!

If this isthe case, then her death would be under her "new" married name.

Perhaps you should try and find a marriage for her after 1910.


Just a thought, I'm probably speaking rubbish as usual.  I'm fairly new to all this family history stuff, so I could be way off the mark.
